As for music, again the results were very strong so long as I remained within the capabilities of the receiver and used speakers suited to it. And switched the sound of stereo music to ‘Stereo’ or ‘Direct’ or to ‘Pure Direct’, rather than the silly ‘All Channel Stereo’ default. This is where the Sony STR DH590 shines. It stands out among the options available in its modest price range with some truly awesome features.

I'm looking at the Sony UBP X800 to pair with my TCL 4k TV. Unfortunately, the two realistically only have HDMI for audio and my Sony Amp is to old to have HDMI. The Sony STR DN590 looks like it should do what I need. I am still using Yamaha speakers I got from you quite some time ago. Firstly, you only need one connection from one subwoofer pre out on the AV receiver to one low level RCA input on the subwoofer. The second output on the AVR is there to fascilitate the connection and use of a second sub, while the left and right inputs on the sub are only both needed if using the sub with a stereo integrated amp or stereo pre amp that doesn't have a dedocated mono subwoofer output. Connect just one RCA terminated cable from one of the subwoofer pre outs on the AV receiver to the right RCA low level input on the sub.One notable feature of the Sony STR-DH590 is the S-Force Pro Front Surround technology, which simulates surround sound with just two front speakers. While it’s not as good as a true surround sound setup, it does provide a wider soundstage and enhances the overall listening experience. and HDR are the new resolution standard, period. 1080p is trying its darndest to stay relevant, but that ship is slowly sailing away. As a new generation of TVs enter our living rooms, the demand for updated audio equipment is becoming an international crisis. Okay… maybe that’s a bit of an overstatement, but it really is a problem. If you’re using a receiver that’s not built for 4K, you’re not really watching 4K quality video. If your receiver doesn’t have a direct pass 4K pass through, then you might as well have a 1080 set. That’s just the reality of the situation. The speakers can be connected with a pair of five-way mounting posts for the main left / right channels, but only small spring clips are available for the other three channels. We tested the AV receiver with a pair of Dynaudio Confidence 60 stationary speakers.
