This is Punpun Onodera’s coming-of-age story. His parents’ marriage is falling apart. His dad goes to jail, and his mom goes to the hospital. He has to live with his loser uncle. He has a crush on a girl who lives in a weird cult. Punpun tries talking with God about his problems, but God is a jerk. Punpun keeps hoping things will get better, but they really, really don’t. the thing that i could actually relate to while reading this was how punpun felt lonely and alone as he was going through all the things happening to his life. that hit home for me. we may not share the same age but i do feel the same most of the time. i thought it wae great the author was able to capture that emotion.Don't ever read this if you're currently depressed or have any trigger warnings at all. This is easily the darkest series I've ever read, even more so than Berserk. You pity him through his demise, you might even get angry at him. Nothing seems to work out how he wants it to, and his way with dealing with it can be upsetting.

Bad: I think some of the weirdness is TOO much and TOO over the top at times to ruin the atmosphere sadly. I also think some of the dialog bubbles sometimes hard to read. I first read this series when I was around 14 years old and struggling with my mental health, and in a lot of ways (as bad as that is) I reflect myself with Punpun's character.Negative thoughts aside, I thought the story was beautifully executed. the thing with manga is that a lot of authors like to take events to the extreme and they give you a lot exaggerated emotions and actions in an instant which I don't particularly dislike but it does give off a more unrealistic setting. this author slowly incorporated events and situations that slowly but effectively sets the mood and setting. the events that took place in the book could be described as random yet completely possible, events happened that you would not expect to happen but can completely happen in the real world. crazy and random, but everything is still tied to the focus of the book. Desde el filtro subjetivo de un niño soñador que no sabe qué pinta en la vida ni qué puede hacer con ella, Asano se puede permitir insertar una gran dosis de humor que contrastará maravillosamente con la gravedad de las situaciones a medida que avance la trama. No recordaba gran parte de estos primeros capítulos (y para qué negarlo, mi memoria se ha reseteado para el resto también) y me he encontrado a mí mismo riendo a carcajadas con muchas escenas. El humor de Punpun es uno con el que hay que conectar para que funcione efectivamente. y por lo menos conmigo lo ha logrado. Desde el profesor hasta la enciclopedia médica, pasando por las pajas mentales (y físicas) que se monta Punpun, me cuesta recordar escenas donde no me haya partido la caja.

Recommended to pretty much everybody who's looking for a moving, first-class coming of age story. As long as you don't mind a side of straight-up weird to go along with it. I don't think I'll be able to properly convey my feelings for this story in a review today. I can write an entire essay, but it won’t be enough for me to describe how this manga changed the little fourteen year old me, and how close I keep it to my heart even now.punpun experienced his first love at a very young age. i dont think it's true love per se, but he felt it was something. the writer was able to convey how that feels like for someone as young as punpun and how confusion will start to settle in as well as he gets older.
