About this deal

Dark Nights: Metal also marks the first appearance of Dream of the Endless from Neil Gaiman's The Sandman (1989–1996) in the post- New 52 DC Universe. [4] According to Snyder, he wanted to make the story unforgettable and a character to help guide the superheroes through the unknown. When he realized Dream would be a good fit, he reached out to Gaiman for permission to use him. “I was so excited... [Gaiman] couldn’t have been more generous", he said. "It’s literally one of the best moments of my career, to be able to get to write a character that meant so much to me growing up and still does". [5]

Dark Nights: Collected Editions Series by Scott Snyder Dark Nights: Collected Editions Series by Scott Snyder

In this new solo series, the first in many years, Hawkman is on a mission to discover the purpose of his many reincarnations. Shiach, Kieran (August 16, 2017). "Review: Dark Nights: Metal #1 is a Reminder of Why We Love Superheroes". CBR . Retrieved 2017-10-02.I didn’t enjoy the story though. I tried to get into it, I don’t hate Snyder as a writer like some but, this was a drag to get through for me. Then again, the concept was too far out there. Im also not crazy over Morrison’s approach with other universes and realms either and this book felt more like Morrison than Snyder for me. I guess I’m a purist in the sense where, I like my stories to hover over one world, earth ideally. Spinning out of Dark Nights: Metal, No Justice is a weekly miniseries running through May 2017. It’s also the catalyst for the a new era in Justice League and Teen Titans comics known as New Justice. Scott Snyder’s Justice League in particular would take a lot of ideas that come out of Dark Nights: Metal and run with them.

Arrant, Chris (October 4, 2017). "Hawkman Found and Demon: Hell on Earth #1 Delayed A Week Each". Newsarama . Retrieved 2017-10-05. Dandeneau, Jim (February 12, 2022). "What Does Dark Crisis Mean for the DC Universe?". Den of Geek . Retrieved 2023-08-08. Comic Book Roundup gave issue #2 an average score of 8.8 out of 10 based on 37 critics. [24] Jim Johnson of CBR praised the issue, and the story-line, for giving Batman a larger role in the DC Universe, saying " Dark Nights: Metal, though, has so far not only given his character fantastically plausible reasons to get out of Gotham, but to take a central role in a storyline that reaches much farther." [32] Schedeen gave it an 8.5 saying "While Metal still has a few kinks to iron out before it can rival the best of Snyder and Capullo's work, the series is delivering plenty of drama and spectacle as it explores the collision between the DCU and the Dark Multiverse." [33]The idea of creating a dark multiverse came from Snyder, who was inspired by watching the science documentary television series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey with his five-year-old son. He became fascinated with the concept of dark matter, prompting him to question "What if the Multiverse essentially has these 52 universes, but has almost this ocean of possibility, this ocean of almost reactive matter beneath it that's like a Dark Multiverse". [1] Aside the seven featured Dark Knights in the finished comic book, Snyder planned more dark Batmen that got ultimately cut; these included a Punisher-esque Batman, a dark magic-wielding Batman, a Batman who grew up as a patient in Arkham Asylum after being accused of his parents' murder, a Batman who merged with his whole rogues gallery and one who merged with Gotham City itself. [3] Dark Nights: Death Metal" is a 2020–2021 comic book storyline published by DC Comics, consisting of an eponymous central miniseries by writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, and a number of tie-in books. The seven-issue miniseries was released from June 16, 2020, to January 5, 2021. The crossover was received with acclaim, with critics praising the unique plot, the art, the action, and the ending. It serves as the conclusion of the five-year Dark Multiverse Saga, taking place near the end of the New Justice era.
