How absolutely delicious do those scones look Karen? Well I’ll tell you, absolutely marvellous. As you know I’m a big fan of Cranks and I’m so sad they closed their last eatery a couple of years or more ago now. But their cookery books remain – hooray. And lovely to bake something your mum made so often too. Today’s recipe is a slightly adapted version of the Cranks cheese roll: I remember both eating these at the restaurant and cooking them from the book, stuffed with cress, which added a welcome, fresh, light-green aspect. It might have been these buns that gave me a taste for the slightly nutty flavour of wholemeal flour. Of all the recipes in the Cranks Recipe Book, I think today’s Cranks Cheese Scones, and the Cheese Baps are the most popular. And not just for home bakers, but they were both extremely popular in all of the Cranks restaurants and shops too.

This is a really simple and low cost meal and yet is so tasty and easy to prepare too! If you like carrots, you will love this recipe!
